Chef Timothy Hontzas opened Johnny's in Homewood in 2012 as the next generation of his family's restaurant. His grandfather Johnny Hontzopolous landed in New Orleans in 1921 and went on to open three restaurants in Mississippi; Gus Hontzas and Tim's father Connie opened the original Johnny's in the summer of 1954, and Gus later bought Niki's West in Birmingham from the family. The room calls itself a Greek and three ... Southern meat-and-three plates with Greek dishes alongside, lunch only, closed Saturday. The Homewood Star's August 2026 column marked its 14th anniversary and named Greek chicken, catfish, pot pie and Creole red beans, and the Homewood Chamber lists a James Beard Foundation semifinalist nod for Best Chef South in 2019 and for Outstanding Hospitality in 2022.
