What does one full day in Birmingham look like? Eating Alabama answers with a ten-step guide that runs from breakfast to late-night food.

The guide is signed “Jenny with Eating Alabama” and was posted in July 2024. It opens by promising a way to “explore Birmingham like a local.”

Breakfast in Homewood and lunch in a food hall

Breakfast comes first. The guide points to Salem's Diner in Homewood and passes on one tip: the space is small, so get there early.

Next come Railroad Park and the Civil Rights District. There the guide names the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, 16th Street Baptist Church and Kelly Ingram Park.

Lunch is at The Pizitz Food Hall. The guide lists the food hall's stalls, and The Standard is one of them.

Beer, seafood and live music from Parkside to Lakeview

For beer, the guide names Good People Brewing Company and Cahaba Brewing Company, plus one more brewery. For dinner it gives two moods. One is Automatic Seafood and Oysters. The other is barbecue at Saw's Soul Kitchen.

The night ends with live music at Iron City, WorkPlay or Saturn. The guide then adds a few late-night food spots.

Keep one thing in mind. The guide is from 2024, and BellyUp! has not checked its menus, hours or descriptions. A few places it names are not in our directory. Look at each place's own page before you go.
