Niki's West
Niki's West opened on Finley Avenue in 1957 as the second Niki's in Birmingham. Greek immigrant Gus Hontzas and his uncle John Hontzas had opened Niki's Downtown at 1101 2nd Avenue North six years earlier; that room closed in 2019 and the Finley Avenue cafeteria carried on. Gus's sons Pete and Teddy Hontzas are the second-generation owners. The draw is the cafeteria line of home-cooked meats and vegetables with a Greek accent, plus charcoal-broiled steaks, seafood and homemade pies and breads from the menu. In July 2026 Cheapism named it the best Southern comfort food restaurant in Alabama.
